JOHANNESBURG - Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa has congratulated Trevor Noah for winning his first Emmy award.

It is with a deep sense of pride that I congratulate @TrevorNoah for winning the Outstanding Short Form Variety Series Emmy Award 

The US-based South African comedian won an Emmy award for his YouTube comedy special, The Daily Show Between the Scenes.


Noah couldn’t attend in person to receive the award, but said he as deeply grateful for the opportunity.

Mthethwa is one of many prominent South Africans who congratulated Noah on social media.

To fellow South African @Trevornoah for winning his long overdue Emmy Award @iemmys .. Man of the world. We salute you!

Actress Terry Pheto who returned home last week with two of her own awards last week also praised Noah for his achievements.

Opposition party the Economic Freedom Fighters also gave Noah a shout out.

Noah was recently in the country on a four show long tour. In 2016, his autobiography, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, was published.
